Optomap & OCT Imaging

Have you wondered about Optomap or OCT Imaging and wondered what it was or if it was right for you? At Luck Optical in Fort Worth, we are here to help you. Here is what you need to know about our OCT and Optomap imaging vision services.

.

What is the Optomap Imaging?

Optomap is a retinal imaging system that uses digital imagery to reveal 80% of your retina at a glance. Most imaging only gets 10-15% at once, so this type of diagnostic procedure can vastly help a vision exam. For most patients, we can even see the eye structures that are needed to be viewed without even dilating your eyes.

There are three scans, all using different light wavelengths to scan the retina’s different layers. These scans are painless and non-invasive, taking only a few minutes before we can go over the results and what they mean for your eyes and vision. These maps, or digital records of the scan, can be kept and compared as you come in for more eye exams to see subtle changes in your eyes.

What is an OCT Scan?

OCT or Optical Coherence Tomography is a scanner that makes a 3D image of the layers of your eye and structures like the optic nerve and cornea. It uses a special light to examine those areas, letting us see early problems before they become big problems. These types of scans are also good for glaucoma detection but are most often used for checking macular health. These scans are painless and non-invasive just like Optomap imaging.

This type of eye exam test takes only a couple of minutes and we can talk with you about our findings and what was seen in the imaging. Just like the Optomap, we can keep a digital image over time and compare it with others to see the subtle changes and get a better overall comprehensive look at your eye health.
